Merry Christmas from Scantrol and Deep Vision

Now and then in life you meet people who make an extraordinary effort for the world around them. Ousmane Kabo is one of them. He is the founder of the organization Our Children Learning (OCL) that in the last year has built and opened a school in Maïrom in the area of Kokaga in Tchad. This year, our donation goes to this important project. As our valued customer, partner or associate in any way, this contribution is made on your behalf.

Tchad is one of the least developed countries in the world, according to the UN. Kokaga is one of the least developed areas in this country with a life expectancy of between 40 and 50 years and 99,5% of the population unable to read and write.

The building of the ECAM school (École Caritative et Associative de Mairoum) started in January 2022 and was opened in October. In less than a year, the school and surrounding infrastructure have been built, mainly by locals working for free. Today, more than 600 children go to school 6 days a week.

“Everyone in the local community has worked together to get this school up and going and now almost all the parents are sending their children to school. This is unique compared to other schools in Tchad,” explains Jarle Lysebo who is part of OCL Norway.

Usually, in this area, parents have to pay for their children to go to school. This means that only very few children get the opportunity to attend school. Instead, OCL has decided that parents will not pay for their children to go to school but instead work for free to cover the school fees.

But there is more work to be done. OCL is currently installing solar panels in an area that has never had electricity to power computers and sewing machines. They also want to offer the children at school a daily meal and a pickup service so that children with 25 km to walk can also get to school. The car will also double as hospital transport and they are looking to train a nurse.

Scantrol and Scantrol Deep Vision encourage you to make your Christmas contribution meaningful this year and support OCL and the fantastic work they are doing for the community of Maïrom.
